... Today, it seems there are just about as many search engines on the web as there are web sites! And to make matters more difficult, these search engines each use their own algorithm to decide which web sites will rank the highest when people search for information.
Fortunately, an extremely high percentage of web surfers use just a handful of these search engines and directories (ie- Yahoo, MSN, AltaVista...). As a web designer, I have spent the past 2 years configuring a web site design which caters to almost all of these search engines' ranking requirements, as you may have seen by trying some sample searches of your own for my own practice web site (see our home page).
Search engines and directories look for a large variety of variables when ranking web sites...
Keywords
Site Description
# of times certain words appear on a page
# of links to your web site from elsewhere on the web
# of pages in your web site
Descriptions within photo and image files
Popularity of the site (# of times the site is visited)
Web site domain name (ie- www.joe.com vs. www.seattle-dentist.com)
Quality... quality... quality!
Detailed and useful information
General layout of words and phrases within your site
Some of the above variables such as keywords and site descriptions are actually included within the html code of your web page and are invisible to the casual web surfer. Virtually all search engines use Keyword and Description coding to determine where to categorize and rank your site. Unfortunately, many web site designers do not allow you to use these tools and, therefore, you will never be able to maximize the visibility of your practice, if At All! With a CityDRS web site, you can add and change these variables in your site as much as you wish, and we will give you the password to do so!
In the past, many people have maximized their web site ranking by repeating keywords over and over again. Search engines, however, now penalize sites for doing this... One way CityDRS web sites work is by incorporating pertinent words such as 'dentist' in strategic places within your site, without being penalized! It is also possible to 'dilute' your site with too many keywords and wordy descriptions. Often (but not always), by having a concise 5 word description which includes the words 'dentist' and your city, you will rank higher than someone else who repeats variations of the word 'dentist' several times.
Our services at CityDRS MAXIMIZE YOUR MARKETABILITY in so many ways that I believe you can not find a better web designing company for your needs. I know some of the above literature may seem confusing or abstract to you. If you have any questions at all, please don't hesitate to e-mail us from the link below.
Sincerely,
Ethan Janson DDS
