I had my teeth capped 4 years ago and my back molar is throbbing. What could be the problem? I thought by having my bad teeth crowned I would not have a tooth ache again, and I would never have to worry about dentures.

Although capping (or crowning) a tooth is often the best way to prevent further breakdown or discomfort in a tooth, sometimes the nerve of the tooth may be affected by prior cavities, fractures, or trauma. What this means is that the nerve of a tooth may still 'act up' on you months or even years after a crown is placed. It is also possible for cavities to form underneath crowns, especially at the margin between the crown and your natural tooth. These cavities can also be the source of a toothache such as yours. I strongly recommend that you see a dentist regarding your throbbing tooth and determine what the source of your discomfort may be.
